Salvamar Mirfak saved crew of burning luxury yacht

Fri Mar 31 09:15:06 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Salvamar Mirfak" went to assist the 20-m-luxury yacht “Blue Marlin“ on March 29 at noon which had caught fire two miles off La Villa Joyosa (Alicante) between La Vila and El Campello. The Dutch crew of three was saved by the "Salvamar Mirfak“. The three men, aged 23, 55 and 89, were treated for slight smoke inhalation. Two were treated on scene at the Yacht Club Nautico, the eldest was taken by ambulance to the district hospital of the Baixa Marina. The crew of the "Salvamento Mirfak” tried in vain to douse the flames along with the Civil Guard and the police of Benidorm. The gutted yacht sank on a water depth of 38 meters. The salvors recovered some drifting debris. The "Blue Marlin" had left the Nautical Club of Vila Joyosa in the morning on what was to become its last voyage.
