Rugged wreckage raised

Thu May 22 22:17:10 CEST 2014 Timsen

The operation to lift the wreckage of the "Santa Ana" was finished on May 22 around 6 p.m. Two large mobile cranes of the Galician compancy Latero have raised the wreckage within about an hour at the port of El Musel. The deformation of the ship and the accumulated sludge inside, which increased the weight to 200 tons, forced salvors to install a second crane for a safer lifting operation. The wreck will be scrapped in the coming days. Second mobile crane installed

Thu May 22 10:50:06 CEST 2014 Timsen

On May 21 a second crane with a lifting capacity of 1,200 tons was installed at the quay where the "Santa Ana" was hanging at about 100 balloons in Musel/Gijón. In total, six trucks with equipment and generators were unloaded at Musel port. The crane is to support the first crane installed in the port of Musel which can reach up to 160 meters and has a lifting capacity of 600 tons. After the wreck was raised on May 19, 20 divers had searched the area without finding remains of Manuel Tajes, a machinist of the trawler, who was still missing.
