Stranded Dutch sailor on scrap ship to be repatriated

Wed May 16 12:08:07 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Indian authorities are about to repatriate Gerrit Oonk, who is employed by the Sustainable Line Trading, who has been stuck aboard the "Sea Angel" since three months. When the formalities have been completed, he can be removed from the ship within a few hours. The rest of the crew will be left behind for the time being. They demand outstanding wages from another company involved, the Momentum Marine Services. After the terrible conditions under which the men were stuck on the ship, became public, the Dutch embassy in Dubai has taken action to get Oonk off the ship. The embassy has visited both Sustainable Line Trading and Momentum Marine Services. The "Sea Angel" was detained due to a dispute between the buyer Sustainable Line Trading, the seller Momentum Marine Services and a creditor who has seized the ship for unpaid bunker dues. The Port Officer and the Customs Authorities at Bhavnagar/Alang were directed by the High Court of Gujarat at Ahmedabad to arrest the "Sea Angel"l berthed at Bhavnagar/Alang within the Indian territorial waters on Feb 20. Gerrit Oonk was hired by Sustainable to guide the ship's tow from Dubai to breakers at Alang. He and the rest of the crew became the victims of the wrangle between the companies and the creditor, a fuel supplier. Due to the seizure, the ship was not allowed to enter the port of Alang. Oonk, two Filipinos and five Indians have since been deprived of food, drink and fuel despite numerous promises from their employers that they will be saved quickly.
