Damaged reefs in marine reserve and diving site, Egypt

Sun May 19 03:43:27 CEST 2013 odinfm

Several natural coral reefs located in South Sinai's Blue Hole and Canyon diving areas in the Red Sea were devastated in the evening May 15 13, wrote Ahram Online, Egypt. Egypt's NGO Rescue and Environmental Protection Society (REPS) said reefs were destroyed by a foreign ship’s anchor, when the vessel anchored in the prohibited area. REPS requested that the Egyptian Navy and Red Sea Coast Guard take action against the foreign vessel under the name of Sea Lord. Both REPS and media were at a loss as to the nationality of the vessel, which accidentally, happened to be not foreign, but Egyptian. After that stoppage, maybe explained by some mechanical problem, vessel sailed south and as of May 17 was anchored off Bir Abu Ghusan, Egypt, Red sea.
