Tug “Sereia” completes new maritime fleet of the Port of Maputo

Thu May 15 10:44:21 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Thursday, 15 May 2014 | “Sereia “, the newest addition to the fleet of the maritime services at the Port of Maputo, has made its inaugural tour in the waters of the port on the 17th of April. Like its “twin-brother” Bulani, inaugurated last December by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Dr. Gabriel Muthisse, the new tug was built in Sanmar , Turkey and now joins a whole new fleet of two tugboats with a bollard pull of 60 tonnes, a pilot boat and a mooring boat . With the acquisition of “ Sereia “ the set of investments in new vessels (of about $15 million), required by the contract between P & O and MPDC which was signed in September 2012, is now completed. This contract lasts for 10 years and could be extended for an equal period. Apart from the acquisition of new vessels , the contract also provides for ongoing training for all employees that formerly belonged to the MPDC . Source: Port of Maputo
