Tug ran aground on Cape George Beach
On Sep 26, 2013, at 12.30 a.m. the "Shannon" went off course and ran aground on Cape George Beach. The tug was heading from Port Angeles to Seattle when it ran aground south of its scheduled route when towing a barge of paper products that did not run aground.The tug was refloated on Sep 27 at about 7 a.m. It was moored behind the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill. There was no damage to the ship, and no pollutants were released. The Coast Guard was still investigating why it went off course, and this could take several days.
