Sound Castor attended capsized barge in Gothenburg

Wed Jun 21 11:01:14 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 21, 2017, short past 6 a.m. a barge capsized in Central Gothenburg near the old ferry terminal in the freeport. It was loaded with stones, which was to be used in the construction of the new Hisings Bridge. At first it was not known whether there were people on board. Therefore, a large scale rescue operation with 12 emergency vehicles was launched. Divers descended from the "Sound Castor" to investigate the barge which was floating bottom up. They found out that there were apparently no humans on board. Staff of Skanska MTH was moblized to get the barge back on level keel. On June 20 she had been loaded with rocks and had probably suffered an unremarked water ingress in the night. The construction work should not be affected by the accident. The rocks landed on the harbour bottom. Swedish report with photos: http://www.gp.se/nyheter/g%C3%B6teborg/lastpr%C3%A5m-kantrade-i-centrala-g%C3%B6teborg-1.4378756
