Two trawlers disabled off Fraserburgh
The "Kjelsvik"’s attempt to come to the rescue of another fishing vessel, the "Starlight Rays", went wrong on July 25, 2017, leaving both needing the help of a lifeboat crew. At around 8.10 .p.m, the "Kjelsvik" had attempted to tow the stricken "Starlight Rays" back to Fraserburgh but the crew accidentally tangled the rope around its own propeller instead. It resulted in both vessels requiring the help of the RNLI. The harbour’s own pilot boat was also called out to help tow. The crew of the RNLI boat left the harbour and was on the scene within two minutes, returning to port just five minutes later. They successfully set up a tow to a vessel in distress and towed her into Fraserburgh Harbour. Both the "Starlight Rays" and "Kjelsvik" were immobilised when the crew attended. Water ingress tackled by crew
The "Starlight Rays" reported water ingress and asked for assistance in the afternoon of July 23, 2016, about 40 miles northeast of Unst island, Shetlands islands. The Shetland Coastguard launched a rescue operation and sent the Aith RNLI boat and a helicopter from Sumburgh, but by the time the helicopter arrived at the scene the seven crew members had managed to get the situation under control, stopping the water ingress. The crew was in the process of arranging a tow with its partner vessel "Kjelsvik". Once this was established the Coastguard chopper was released, and returned to the base. Meanwhile Aith lifeboat continued to make its way to the scene to allow the lifeboat's mechanic to check whether the ingress of water had been stopped properly. The crew of the "Starlight Rays" was planning to reach either Shetland or Peterhead under own power.
