Fri Mar 03 10:44:14 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Starlite Saturn', which had run aground at the Danajon Bank, Bohol, on Feb Feb 2023, was refloated by a tug in the afternoon of March 1. The crew restarted the engine, and the ferry arrived at Pier 5 in Cebu City with own power in the evening, where inspections commenced. The starboard propeller and the hull of the vessel suffered minor damages. Starlite Ferries Included stated that they would comply with the Maritime Authorities mandatory safety inspection.

Ferry ran aground off Talibon - 143 people taken off

Wed Mar 01 11:26:51 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Starlight Saturn' with 99 passengers and 55 crew members on board ran aground in the waters of the Danajon Bank in Talibon, Bohol while sailing from Surigao City to Cebu City on Feb. 28, 2023, at 4 p.m. with 87 passengers, 54 crew members, 2 PCG marshals, and 12 rolling cargoes on board. The Philippine Coastguard dispatched the BRP 'Filipino Flojo' and BRP 'Enrique Jurado' in the night, which arrived at the Danajon Bank at about 2 a.m., but experienced delays in the rescue operations as a result of the low tide, as they were unable to come close to the 'Starlight Saturn'. The rescue operations finally started at about 4:30 a.m. The passengers were transferred onto the Supercat 'St. Camael'. A total of 143 people - 88 passengers and 43 crew members - were safely taken off as of March 1. They were transported to Pier 5 in Cebu City. 11 of the passengers, who also happened to be drivers, volunteered to remain onboard the 'Starlight Saturn' to secure the belongings that were left behind.
