Main engine stopped in storm

Sun Nov 01 21:20:37 CET 2020 Timsen

The main engine of the 'Stella Tess' stopped on Oct 31, 2020, at 6.30 a.m. while en route from Narvik to Port Said, in position 60 29 30 N 004 43 54 W, about 18 miles from Foinaven Field. While troubleshooting was underway, the vessel was drifting in the northeast direction. No assistance has been requested, and the vessel was outside of the ETV operating area. On scene were SSE winds of 5-6 Beaufort with a five metre swell with a very rough sea state. Repairs were completed around 11 a.m, but at 2.45 p.m. it was reported that the fault in its main engine had reoccurred. A link call was established between the Chief officer, CPSO, Duty surveyor, SMC Stornoway & SMC Shetland. The Coastguard ETV 'Ievoli Black' was was tasked to proceed to the vessel at 08.40 a.m. Meanwhile repair works have been completed, and the ship was able to continue its voyage to Port Said with an ETA as of Nov 13.
