Medevac in Gulf of Mexico

Mon Apr 08 21:57:09 CEST 2013 Timsen

A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a crewman aboard the "Seaboard Pride" approximately 90 miles south of Southwest Pass in the Gulf of Mexico on Apr 7, 2013. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 9:55 a.m. that a Filipino crewman aboard the vessel was experiencing symptoms of acute appendicitis. Sector New Orleans directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the scene. The aircrew arrived on scene at 2:56 p.m., hoisted the crewman abaord and transported him to Air Station New Orleans. Emergency Medical Services personnel took him to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero. It was a very challenging hoist which needed hoisting him from the top of the wheelhouse. The crewman's condition is unknown. Report with video: http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/1741615/Coast-Guard-medevacs-1-from-container-ship-in-Gulf-of-Mexico
