Cocaine found on container ship

Mon Jul 06 12:48:27 CEST 2020 Timsen

Mexican customs officials have found a container with 102.5 kilos of cocaine aboard the 'Svendborg Maersk' The cocaine was found during a search on July 2, 2020, in the port of Manzanillo. The search came after the Mexican authorities received a tip that drugs were on board the ship which had just arrived in Manzanillo from Balboa, and had before called at Buenaventura. Maersk was cooperating with the Mexican authorities responsible for the case. Two Mexicans who were to receive the cocaine were detained by the police. The ship remained stationary at the SSA Mexico Manzanillo Container Terminal as of July 6.

Maersk praised for response on container loss

Sun Oct 12 09:53:17 CEST 2014 Timsen

French authorities praised the Maersk Line for an "exemplary and responsible attitude" in connection with the search for the 500 Containers the "Svendborg Maersk" lost in Februaryin a storm in the Bay of Biscay. "From the beginning of what was a major shipping incident, Maersk's attitude was exemplary. They were fully prepared to fulfill requests and showed a very responsible attitude all the way through", a spokesman from the French maritime authorities said. Maersk Line chartered the research vessel "Borda" from the French Hydrographique a Océanographique de la Marine. With a sonar it scoured the seabed and located the 500 lost containers. It was a requirement from the French authorities to keep fishing vessels off the debris.

Maersk ship that lost containers wasnt designed for hurricanes

Mon Sep 15 18:36:22 CEST 2014 arnekiel

The ship was vulnerable after a conversion in 2012. Twice, the ship unexpectedly rolled to extreme angles, losing 517 twenty-foot containers overboard The Maersk ship ‘Svendborg Maersk’, which lost hundreds of containers in stormy weathers in the Bay of Biscay earlier this year, was not designed to sail in hurricane-force weather, a new report reveals. The report – released by the Danish maritime accident investigation board Den Maritime Havarikommission – showed that a conversion in 2012 ensured increased cargo capacity but reduced safety in rough seas. This meant that the ship wasn’t designed for the hurricane-strength weather it encountered on February 14.“ Source : Copenhagen Post
