Pulp carrier refloated

Thu Mar 30 10:10:59 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Symphony Sky" was refloated off the industrial port of Husum shortly before 8 p.m. on March 29 by the tug "Kampe" (MMSI: 265515010). She then proceeded to the quay in Husum under own power for a thorough inspection. During the day, divers had examined the damage to the ship. They found four holes in the ballast tanks and the water has penetrated into a cavity. In port an assessment will be carried out to find out whether it is possible to continue on to a shipyard for repairs. The Coast Guard was on site to assist the salvage efforts and have a response capability if oil leaked out in connection with the salvage. The ship was loaded with 1.000 tons pulp and destinated for Motril when it got stuck in the shallows at 2.36 p.m. on March 28. Attempts to get the ship off without external assistance by by moving the hatches and pumping out ballast water had failed. Wed Mar 29 11:35:33 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Symphony Sky" tried to get off the shoal at Husum under its own power in the morning of March 29. Divers will first examine the hull at 9 a.m. Investigators from the Transportation Board and staff from the Accident Investigation Board have been transported out to the ship. If the refloating attempt fails, a towing operation may commence later in the day. Swedish report with photo: http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=110&artikel=6662133
