Tanker under tow towards Rotterdam

Wed Jan 20 10:36:41 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Syn Tabit', while being enroute from Ceuta to Rotterdam, suffered problems with the steering gear in position 51 18 36.0 N, 002 07 36.0 E two miles, northeast of the Sandettie North Buoy on Jan 19, 2021. The tug 'Abeille Languedoc' was tasked to assist. The Dover Coastguard was made aware of the vessel, while the CROSS Gris Nez was coordinating the response. The defect was not successfully rectified. The vessel dropped anchor, while the crew was effecting repair works alongside the 'Abeille Languedoc'. After the issue was fixed, the ship was proceeding to the Dunkerque Anchorage, and the 'Abeille Languedoc' was no longer required. The ship later required assistance by the tug 'Multratug 17' towards the port of Rotterdam with an ETA as of Jan 21. The tug left Flushing at 12.35 p.m. and headed towards the vessel which was first to be towed to a sheltered position due to inclement weather conditions before approaching Rotterdam.
