Grounding on Harrington Shoal

Mon Jan 25 18:48:18 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Trinity Bay' ran aground on the Harrington Shoal while transiting the Great Barrier Reef in the morning of Jan 19, 2021. The ship was refloated two hours later and continued its voyage from Thursday Island to Cairns, where it arrived on Jan 21 at 9.20 pm. During a survey, no damages were found, because the ship had grounded on a sandy bottom. It left Cairns on Jan 23 and continued its coastal service.

Trinity Bay grounding is getting investigated

Fri Sep 09 10:32:35 CEST 2011 Timsen

The company Sea Swit flew divers and surveyors to Bamaga Airport on August 30, 2011. At Seisia Wharf the divers have given the ship the all-clear. Cargo and passengers bound for the Northern Peninsula Area were delayed after the "Trinity Bay" ran aground near Seisia on Aug 29 at 3 a.m. The incident has prompted an investigation by Maritime Safety Queensland. Safety Queensland adviesed the vessel would not be allowed to transit the Barrier Reef until it had undergone a full inspection. The safety authority said they had no reports of damage to the vessel or of pollutants entering the water after it ran aground on a sand bar near the Red Island Point Jetty north of Bamaga. As a precaution, the "Malu Titan" was dispatched from Thursday Island with oil containment and recovery equipment. Cargo and fuel was transferred to a standby vessel, the "Kestrel Bay". The ship was refloated on aug 29 at 8.40 p.m. begin pulled off the mud bank by the tug "Cossack". Reports from other users of the waterway that a green channel marker near the Seisia wharf was in the wrong place owing to shifting sands around the point could not be officially confirmed.
