Container ship saved fisherman off Celestún

Tue Feb 08 11:19:29 CET 2022 Timsen

A cooler saved the life of a fisherman from Celestún, who was shipwrecked 24 miles off the coast of Celestún on Jan 31, 2022, when his boat sank while returning from fishing. The second man aboard grabbed a buoy and was rescued by other riverside people. After two days of drifting in the fiberglass structure, the 'Queen B', en route from Coatzacoalcos to Manatee, Florida, rescued the castaway off the Yucatan Peninsula about 50 or 60 miles from the coast on Feb 2. Once on board, the fisherman received care, clothing and food. The ship took him further to Manatee and then to Veracruz. Upon the return to Coatzacoalcos the ship will deliver the castaway. The day of the events, the riverside boat was returning from fishing, but a tidal wave sank it, one of the two fishermen named Werner, The shipwreck occurred about 24 miles north of that western port. Erik was attached to a fiberglass cooler, the swells moved him away and took him out to sea.

New World Direct Shipping vessel makes maiden voyage from Port Manatee

Fri Jul 29 09:25:49 CEST 2016 arnekiel

World Direct Shipping’s new containership, the M/V Queen B, made its maiden voyage from Port Manatee on Tuesday as part of the cross-Gulf service with Mexico, according to a press release. The Queen B is 430 feet long with a capacity of 700, 20-foot-equivalent container units and 128 refrigerated cargo plugs and will carry refrigerated produce from Mexico to the port, then return to Mexico with paper, recycled materials and oversized cargos. “The right-sized M/V Queen B is ideally suited for this trade, offering enhanced energy efficiency, including the ability to smoothly transition to low-sulfur fuel when entering U.S. emissions control area waters,” Carlos Diaz, co-director of World Direct Shipping, said in a press release. “The vessel will carry on World Direct Shipping’s established transit time of only 2 1/2 days – the quickest short-sea connection between Mexico and the U.S. Southeast, Northeast and Midwest.” Read more here: http://www.bradenton.com/news/business/article92340067.html#storylink=cpy
