Clipper run aground with water ingress
On Oct 8, 2015, the "Vliegende Draeck", 268 ts (03050764), suffered water ingress through a gash of several centimeters length during a charter tour with 27 passengers on board. At 3.16 p.m. volunteers of the KNRM stations Terschelling and Vlieland were alerted to the sailing ship)which was on the Vlie roads between Terschelling and Vlieland. On the way to the clipper pumps were made ready put to transfer, but the skipper of the clipper was meanwhile able to plug the leak. The ship was run aground at the height of the Fransche Gaatje. The salvage vessel "Orca" and the KNRM boat "Graaf van Bylandt" of the KNRM-Vlieland were first on the scene. It was decided that the 27 passengers were to be transferred onto another sailing ship, so that the rescuers could take care of the "Vliegende Draeck". Once the situation was under control and the passengers disembarked, the clipper was taken to Harlingen with the assistance of the salvors and lifted ashore at Shipdock.
