Ferry delayed due to breakdown

Sat Aug 03 17:17:47 CEST 2019 Timsen

Passengers travelling from Lymington to Yarmouth were stuck on board the ‘Wight Sun’ as it was unable to dock at Yarmouth due to a mechanical issue on Aug 2, 2019, at 8:30 p.m. in the mid-Solent. The ferry suffered a breakdown of one engine, reducing the manoeuvrability and speed of the vessel so it was unable to safely dock at Yarmouth. At 9.20 p.m. the power was restored and the ship safely moored alongside at Yarmouth, albeit delayed.

In the afternoon of Dec 13, 2018, Wightlink has cancelled several sailings of the "Wight Sun" on the Yarmouth to Lymington route due to a mechanical issue. Customers were accommodated on the next available sailing.

Ferry stuck in the mud

Tue Sep 29 12:18:44 CEST 2015 Timsen

There have been delays on cross-Solent ferries between Lymington and the Isle of Wight in the morning of Sep 29, 2015, after the “Wight Sun” got stuck in mud. he early morning ferry service was disrupted due to a low tide. Lower than predicted tidal conditions left the Wightlink ferry grounded on mud in its berth in Lymington. The ferry was due to make the 40-minute crossing to Yarmouth at 05:35 a.m., but was unable to get afloat until 07:00 a.m. This led to delays of as much as 90 minutes. The low tide was causing problems across the region with sailors trying to avoid some of the shallower parts of the Solent.
