Search for missing sailor suspended
An emergency response group from the Nakhodka port in the Primorsky Region has ended a search operation for the lost sailor on Nov 6, but the vessel's owner, Nayada, will continue the search. The seabed under the explosion site of the 'Zaliv Amerika' remained unexplored due to violent, powerful winds and two-meter-high waves. A group of divers searched the area with the use of a deep submergence vehicle. Almost 9,000 square meters of the water area, 1.5 kilometres of coastline, and 22,500 square meters under the water were examined. :
Explosion on tanker killed three
On Nov 2, 2019, at 8.30 a.m. LT an explosion occurred in the cargo tanks of the 'Zaliv Amerika' in Nakhodka waters, near the Mys Astafyev Cape, Primorye. The first mate and two sailors were killed, one of them drowning before the others could rescue him. A rescue operation to recover the body was started. The deck of the tanker suffered extensive damage from the blast. Port fireboats quickly dealt with a few small fires started by the initial explosion. Fuel gases seem to have exploded in the empty cargo tanks. Maiden voyage delayed following allision
On Nov 14, 2017, the "Zaliv Amerika" allided with LNG tanker "Fedor Litke" while unmooring from the vessel after bunkering operations at 3.40 p.m. The brand new LNG tanker, which was to set sail for its maiden voyage to Sabetta in the Arctic Sea, suffered a hull breach of about 0,2 meters length one meter above the waterline in ballast tank 4 area.
