Tanker detected despite AIS turned off and arrested off Nigeria

Tue Dec 17 20:54:34 CET 2019 Timsen

The Nigerian Navy detected and arrested the 'Zeebrugge' on Dec 12 though the AIS was turned off. The vessel left Tanger and sailed for Nigeria as a ghost ship. The vessel left Nigeria’s Ajapa Marginal Oil Field indicating that its next destination would be Ghana. The Nigerian Navy arrested the vessel in the Gulf of Guinea, 84 nautical miles South of Lagos and discovered stolen crude oil and seven Sri Lankan citizens onboard the ship which were now undergoing interrogation.
