Freighter sank tanker
The cargo m/v "Yanzhan 58" was in collision with the outbound "Zhenpeng", which was loaded with 2290 tons of gasoline, in the evening of May 9, 2016, in the Peral river estuary. The accident took place near buoy 48 in the Guangzhou Port Channel. The freighter struck the tanker, the hull of which was breached in the engine room area. The "Zhenpeng" suffered power loss and was in danger of sinking. To avoid sinking inside the fairway, she was towed to shallow waters by two tugs and intentionally grounded. The 15 crew members were safely evacuated. The "Yanzhan 58" which had come from Guangzho, dropped anchor on Nansha Roads.
