The American Queen Steamboat Co. is adding to its fleet. The Memphis-based company has purchased the Empress of the North from the U.S. Maritime Administration for an undisclosed amount, it revealed today. The company, which owns and operates the American Queen, will rename its new acquisition the American Empress. The American Queen Steamboat Co. will sail the American Empress from the home port of Portland, Ore. starting next April. American Empress measures 360 feet with five decks. It can host 223 guests in seven different types of staterooms.
