Ship Tracking with Google Earth
Google Earth is an application from the Google Corporation. With Google Earth, you can view the earth from above in form of satellite images.
At vesseltracker.com we use Google Earth for real time ship tracking. The position data we receive from our AIS network is integrated in the satellite images of Google Earth. Because of the high resolution of the images and the easy navigation you can track your ships easier than ever with this solution.
Normally, the data is displayed on your screen with a delay of only 2 minutes. Thus, when you are located on the coast, you can see a ship pass by in Google Earth and in the real world simultaneously.
The position data from AIS is very accurate, so that you can see on which berth and bitt the ships reside. In the picture on the left you see the vessels "TINA", "PLANET V" and "MS PARTNERSHIP" at the Burchardkai Terminal in Hamburg.
Our geographic database also contains data about ports and berths, so that the name of the current berth can be displayed for each ship.
With the integrated search function you can easily find the vessel you are looking for, wherever it currently is.
For each ship we display comprehensive additional information, such as speed, draught, course and true heading.
With the help of our geo database we also display the current port and the destination port.
Browser-based Map View
For people who can't or don't want to install an external application for ship tracking, we also provide the ship position data on a map which can be viewed directly on the web, with Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
You can either choose a satellite map or normal road map. In both views the ships are displayed at their exact position with normally only 2 minutes delay.
For the browser based map view we use Microsoft Virtual Earth. For best results, we recommend using Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox version 1.5 or greater.
Ship information in Tabular Form
For ship agents and others who need to make plans for vessels in a port, we also provide the ship information in tabular form. We have a table of moving vessels and one of moored vessels in each region.
For the moving vessels we show the last waypoint which was passed (e.g. Brunsbüttel, Glückstadt or Stade) and the time when it was passed.
In the table of moored vessels we show the current port and berth for each ship.
Vessel Archive with photos
In our Vessel Archive you can find all the ships that ever visited one of our covered areas. You can browse the archive in tabular form or use our search function.
For most of the ship we also have photographs which have been uploaded by our users. If you have some photos which we are still missing, you can upload them to our system.
For all vessels which are currently in range of our AIS network we show the current
position directly in the archive. With this feature you can check the position of
your ships easier than ever without having to launch Google Earth first.
For company accounts we additionally show the track of the last 24 hours.
Automatic Alerting via E-Mail or SMS
You have no time to look into our system all day only to await some ships? We provide automatic vessel alerting via e-mail and SMS (mobile phone text message), so that you never miss the arrival of a ship, even when you are travelling.
We notify you when the ship enters a port or a region which is interesting to you.
