Tug reattached to barge

Thu Sep 22 09:48:41 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "Sinuk" on Sep 21, 2011, has managed to reattach a tow line to the loose barge carrying tens of thousands of gallons of fuel off Alaska's west coast. The ship was able to hook up to the barge when winds dropped to 27 mph in the afternoon and conncet to the rear of it. The tug was towing the 173-foot barge toward its original destination Port Clarence near Nome. There was no reported damage to the barge. The tug had shadowed the barge overnight after it got loose on Sep 20evening in 15-foot waves and winds that reached 46 mph. The Coast Guard sent a C-130 airplane to assess the situation earlier on Sep 21 and was keeping in close communication with the tug.
