Tanker assisted yacht with broken mast

Sat Sep 01 14:34:43 CEST 2012 Timsen

On Aug 30, 2012, the "Clipper Harald" enroute Rafnes -Karsto assisted a drifting 41-ft-yacht in the afternoon. Tjøme Radio was notified at 1:41 that the ocean cruiser had a broken mast and was adrift about 5 nautical miles off Risør/Lyngør in rough seas. On board were the skipper and his two sons in 8-9 years. He feared that the broken mast could beat holes into the hull. The lifeboat "Inge Steensland" immediately set course for the yacht at full speed, and reached it about 40 minutes later. Meanwhile the "Clipper Harald" had reached the casualty and sheltered it. The lifeboat took the casualty in tow to Risør. The crew was taken aboard the lifeboat.
