Thu Jul 09 09:26:02 CEST 2015 arnekiel

European Union competition regulators approved French carrier CMA CGM’s acquisition of OPDR, the German short-sea shipping line. The EU didn’t attach any conditions to its approval of the deal, according to CMA CGM which officially integrated OPDR into the Marseille-based group on July 1.CMA CGM acquired OPDR from the Bernhard Schulte group in November for an undisclosed sum.The company’s fleet consists of five 698 twenty-equivalent-unit capacity container vessels, which the company owns, two roll-on, roll-off ships and three chartered container vessels which transported around 200,000 TEUs in 2014. Some of the company’s routes linked Scandinavia with Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands and Morocco.OPDR will become a subsidiary of MacAndrews, a UK-based short sea carrier acquired by CMA CGM in 2002, which transported more than 230,000 TEUs last year.
