Date and Place of detention: - 12 April 2013, Hull The vessel was detained in Hull as suspected cargo shift occurred during loading operations. It could not be determined if the cargo was appropriately stowed, and secured, throughout its intended journey. Other deficiencies identified were the emergency generator remote fuel shut off valve was not labelled; an A-60 fire door was secured in an open position; there was an oil leak on the thermal oil pipe flange and CPP header tank pipe. The rescue boat search light was not working and the port liferaft painter was not secured to weak link of HRU. The vessel was released on 22 April 2013

Date and Place of detention: - 15 April 2013, Belfast The vessel was detained in Belfast as there was retention of oil on board in the engine room bilges to be pumped ashore and not all officers can operate MFDSC. Nine deficiencies were marked as ISM, which demonstrate there was objective evidence of a serious failure, or lack of effectiveness of the implementation of the ISM Code. Other deficiencies identified were the emergency room quick closing valve was in need of repair and the escape light was extinguished; the magnetic compass can not be seen from steering position and there was no effective means of taking a bearing. The following were not found on board as expected charts 1752 & 1753, radio log, voyage or passage plan and compass correction log. The forward draft marks were incorrect. The vessel was released on 17 April 2013

A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 56-year-old crewman from the "Laurie Ann Reinauer" which was pulling a barge approximately 125 miles south of Southwest Pass in the Gulf of Mexico on May 16, 2013. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. from the tug that one of its crewmembers reportedly suffered from nausea and dizziness. A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended removing the crewman due to the possibility of stroke risk and other potential complications form post surgery. The crewman sustained the injuries during a boat lowering evolution. A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched and arrived at the location of the "Laurie Ann Reinauer" at approximately 5 p.m. and hoisted him aboard. The aircrew transported him to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero. The crewman's condition was unknown.

Date and Place of detention: - 09 April 2013, Tees The vessel was detained as sixteen deficiencies were marked as ISM, which demonstrate there was objective evidence of a serious failure, or lack of effectiveness of the implementation of the ISM Code. The ISM deficiencies included several fire fighting deficiencies including self closing fire door on non-approved hold back and engine room door does not close and latch; the engine room Co2 release cabinet has two sets of instructions; the fire control plan was not as expected and there was a lack of training in the fire drill. Other ISM deficiencies included there being a lack of training in the abandon ship drill; immersion suits not the correct size to fit staff, the bilge pump suction and discharge hose not connect in rescue boat. The emergency light in forecastle does not work and the lamp in the battery locker was missing; the echo sounder showed low battery and an SRAM fault; the gyro compass is inoperative as the repeater in the steering gear shows 152 degrees whilst the bridge shows 223 degrees. The vessel did not comply with several chapters of the IGC code and a copy of the code was not on board. The Continuous Synopsis Record, Document for Dangerous Goods and muster list were found not to be as expected. Other deficiencies identified were the Certificates for personnel on tankers were missing and food was found not to be stored correctly. The vessel was released on 18 April 2013

In the evening of May 15, 2013, the "Al Kabeer" suffered a fire 13 nautical miles off Sharjah, odin.tc reports. The vessel issued a distress signal at around 8 p.m. reporting a fire. The UAE Civil Defence sent firefighting boats. The crew of 15 was evacuated, nobody was injured. Firefighters extinguished the fire. The extent of the damages was unknown.

Carnival Cruise Lines' love affair with Europe has been an on-again-off-again romance. Only time will tell whether the cruise line and the continent are headed for "divorce" or just a trial separation. For now, Carnival is packing up in Europe and moving out of the market for 2014. The line has two ships in Europe for this summer: the newly re-built (at a cost of $100 million) Carnival Sunshine - formerly the Destiny - and the Carnival Legend. A Danish ferry operator has begun converting a diesel-electric ship into a diesel-electric hybrid. When it's done, it will be the world's largest hybrid passenger ferry. Scandlines commissioned the retrofit of the Prinsesse Benedikte, a ship that can carry 300 vehicles and 900 passengers on the short, 18-km hop between Rødbyhavn, Denmark and Puttgarden, Germany. Thanks to 2.7 MWh of batteries, the ship will be able to travel on electric power alone while in a harbour. The conversion is possible because of modular lithium polymer energy storage packs from Corvus, a company based in British Columbia whose products are capable of sustained output of large amounts of power that's comparable to a diesel engine. The AT6500 modules, which will be fitted to the Prinsesse Benedikte, can recharge in 30 minutes from shore power or generator power, and can propel the 15,000-tonne ship for about 30 minutes without diesel fuel. www.wired.co.uk/n...

Around 15.00 LT, passengers vessel Louis Jolliet ran aground at the western tip of Orleans island, close to Quebec City. No one was injured. No spill oil leaks, no water in the vessel were noted. Louis-Jolliet will be towed at the high tide in the evening.

The Madras high court has appointed an advocate to sell the "Chemical Arrow" which was moored at Kakkinada since Mar 20, 2013, by public auction. The order has been passed on a civil suit filed by the city-based Sabah Ship Suppliers. In his order, the judge said the advocate-commissioner should advertise the auction-sale and then file a report in court on June 10 with details of the sealed tenders.

About eight months after ist grounding on Oct 31, 2012, the "Pratibha Cauvery" was permitted to leave Chennai by the Madras high court, after its auction-sale was confirmed on May 17. The total consideration for the ship was 16 crore and the amount had been deposited with the office of the registrar general of the high court by the successful bidder, Baltanas Shipping Limited in Charlestown, Nevis.
