Freighter sank, crew rescued
The "Ekos Noronha" which left the Port of Recife with cargo bound to Fernando de Noronha on Sep 12, sank the night shortly after leaving the port. The crew managed to swim ashore at Praia do Janga in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, and all were well. The boat was carrying construction material for the renovation of a lodge and supplies to supply the island. The owner of the ship, Eduardo Henrique Oliveira, reported that the "Ekos Noronha" was loaded with about 70 tons of cargo, less than the limit of approximately 100 tons.
