Trawler saved distressed fisherman
A fisherman was saved from his burning boat off the coast of East Iceland by the "Hólmi NS-56" on May 18, 2017. He later went aboard the trawler "Sveinbjörn Sveinsson". The man was not injured. The National Coastguard received an emergency signal at 7.46 p.m. after the fishing boat had caught fire just outside of Vopnafjörður in the East Fjords. Nearby boats were called to assist the fisherman who at around 8 p.m. had abandoned the burning vessel and was on a lifeboat. 20 minutes later he was picked up by the trawler. Once the fire was put out the fishing boat was towed to land by the "Landsbjargar" but sank on the way to the coast.
