Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

Mon Jan 29 12:42:42 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Hilmi K." while en route from Tekirdag to Varna in ballast, suffered an engine failure at Anadolukavagi point in the Istanbul Strait on Jan 28, 2018, at 07.30 a.m. The Coastal Safety tug "Kurtarma-3" immediately attended the scene for vessel and strait traffic safety. Subsequently, the vessel was shifted to a safe anchorage in the strait and dropped anchor. The vessel will resume the strait passage upon completion of permanent repairs and satisfaction of the strait authority. The vessel has to pay tug assistance expenses to Coastal Safety account, prior to departure. Repairs have commenced by the crew. On Jan 29 the ship dropped anchor off Varna.

Grounding in the Izmir-Yenikale area

Wed Nov 25 18:25:31 CET 2015 Timsen

Coming from Iskenderun, the "Hilmi K" ran aground on Nov 24, 2015, at 0745 a.m in the Izmir-Yenikale area. About two hours later vessel managed to refloat by own means, and was anchored near the grounding site for inspection. At 6 p.m the ship entered the port of Izmir. She left the port of Izmir again on Nov 26 at 8 p.m., bound for Istanbul, ETA Nov 29. The ship had escaped from disaster already on June 20, 2014, when in adverse weather conditions the timber loaded ship encountered a list of 25 degrees to starboard and was taking in water at Kandıra'da. Following the ship's distress call the the Coast Guard dispatched the "Tahlisiye 1" and the lifeobat "Kiyem 1" from the Poyraz Station. Staff was transferred aboard and managed to drain the water so that the list could be corrected.
