All seven crew members rescued

All seven fishermen of the "Gyotoku Maru No. 1" were safe on Nov 22 after the longliner capsized 218 miles southwest of Palau. They were rescued and transferred safely by another fishing vessel to General Santos. Lt. Cmdr. Josh Empen, the SAR mission coordinator at Sector Guam, coonveyed special thanks to all partners with the Department of Defense, Japanese Coast guard, the government of Palau, Pacific Mission Aviation and AMVER who quickly brought their resources together in their effort to locate the fishermen in such a remote part of the Pacific.” At 4:20 a.m., (Hawaii Standard Time), watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Guam received a relayed notification from the Japanese Coastguard regarding the current status of the crew. The fishermen reported their vessel sank after a collision with another fishing vessel by which they were also rescued and brought to the Philippines. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Guam initially received an emergency positioning indicating radio beacon alert hit on Nov 19 at 9:18 p.m. (Hawaii Standard Time), alerting them to the possible distress situation prompting the search effort. Sector Guam watchstanders confirmed an EPIRB hit and registration of the fishing vessel with the Mission Coordination Center in Japan. Involved in the SAR operation were an Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker fixed wing airplane aircrew from Anderson Air Force Base in Yiga, Guam, a Pacific Mission Aviation fixed wing aircraft based out Yap and Palau. the AMVER fishing vessel "Hiro Maru", a Japanese Coastguard JA500A fixed wing aircrew from Okinawa. the Japanese National Fisheries University vessel "Koyo Maru", the fishing vessel "Matsu Ichimaru No. 8", a sister ship of the lost tuna vessel, a HC-130 Hercules fixed wing airplane aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter "Kiska (WPB 1336)", homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam, a Navy P-8 Poseidon fixed wing airplane aircrew from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, the Japanese Coastguard vessel "Ryukyu (PLH 09)" and the Palau patrol vessel "President H.I. Remeliik".

Longliner drifted capsized off Pulau, search for crew is on

Seven fishermen aboard the “Gyotoku Maru No. 1 - ON2-0297”, 19,99 gt, which had capsized southwest of Palau on Nov 20, 2017, were being sought in multi-agency search. The Coast Guard Guam was coordinating with the Department of Defense, Japanese Coastguard, the government of Palau and (Automated Report System for Merchant Vessels) partners to bring resources to bear for the search. An aircrew from Andersen Air Force Base and other aircrews from Yap, Palau and Japan are helping with the search. The were working with vessels from Hawaii, Japan and Palau. At about 5 p.m Guam time, the Coast Guard Sector Guam received a radio alert about possible distress situation from the "Gyotoku Maru No. 1". The boat was found capsized about 1,253 miles from Palau at about 9 a.m. on Nov 21, Guam time. Over six hours after the wreck was spotted, two possible life rings and one life raft were found. There weren’t any signs of survivors,. Other vessels searched the area but haven’t seen signs of the fishermen.
