Fire on tug off Staten Island

An engine room fire broke out aboard the "Sassafras" while she was sailing in the vicinity of the St. George Terminal in the morning of Nov 1, 2016 at 9.20 a.m. The fire was quickly isolated, contained and extinguished. The FDNY, the Army Corps of Engineers and the NYPD responded. The vessel was escorted to one of the Vane Brothers Company company's yards following the fire. The Coast Guard Sector New York started to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
