Grounded ship split in two
The "Ai Qi Shan" which ran aground in the Avacha Bay on Sep. 2, 2011, was split in half by a storm and sank off the Kamchatka Peninsula. The salvage ship "Rostov the Great" headed to the scene where the ship has sunk. Now only masts of the ship are seen above the water surface. The salvage ship’s team will assess at the site the possible danger the sunken ship might pose to navigation safety and environmental impact, the official said. The bulker with the 21 crew of China nationals on board stranded while she was preparing to make call at the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The vessel had arrived from the port of Pusan laden with 5232 tons of building materials.
Grounded Chinese freighter Aiqushun abandoned by the crew
Chinese general cargo Ai Qi Shun, stuck on rocks in pos 52 52.7N 158 43.4E, 1 nm S off Petropavlovskiy Light, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, is abandoned by Chinese crew. Vessel is firmly on rocks, from 3 watertight sections of the vessel two – Hold 1 and engine room – are flooded. Fuel tanks are in Hold No 2 area, and seem to be intact, no fuel leak reported. Bilge water is leaking presumably from engine room. Vessel has a fore tilt and 5 deg starboard list. Vessel blackouted, emergency generator is inoperable. No danger to shipping in the area. At 1945 LT Sep 1 2011 m/v Aiqishun ran aground in pos 52 52.7N 158 43.4E, 1 nm S off Petropavlovskiy Light, waiting for a pilot to enter Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy port, Kamchatka, Russia. Vessel grounded on a full water tide by port side, listed starboard, got a hole in engine room and a leak of bilge water. Vessel arrived from Busan with 5232 mt construction materials, 210 mt of fuel. Leakage area is some 300 sq meters, some 100 kg of oiled water leaked and there is no danger of fuel leak. Salvage under way.
