Medevac off Southwest Pass

Fri Oct 13 09:25:35 CEST 2023 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 69-year-old male crew member from the 'Artemis Arctic' on Oct 12, 2023, approximately 135 miles southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call from the research vessel on Oct 11 at approximately 5:30 p.m., reporting a crew member experiencing heart attack-like symptoms. Sector New Orleans watchstanders notified Coast Guard District 8 watchstanders. District 8 watchstanders then coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to assist. The aircrew arrived on scene the next morning, hoisted the patient and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the University Medical Center in New Orleans. The man was last reported to be in stable condition.
