BW Thames distressed by Dagmar

Mon Dec 26 08:54:08 CET 2011 Timsen

The "BW Thames" got into distres off the Norwegian coast, northwest of Bergen in the night of Dec 26, 2011, in the powerful storm Dagmar which threatened to push the tanker onto the rocky shore. The captain alerted the Norwegian authorities late on Dec 25 that it might become necessary to evacuate the tanker unless it managed to regain control of the ship. On Dec 26 at 1 a.m. the wind calmed down so far that the 22-man crew regained control of the ship and succeeded in moving it farther away from shore. The "BW Thames" left Fredericia on Dec 22 evening, bound for Norway's largest refinery port Mongstad north of Bergen.
