Cruise ship suffered flooding in bad weather

Thu Mar 28 09:59:49 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Carnival Sunrise' faced undefined flooding on its way back to Miami from a five-day Caribbean cruise on MArch 23, 2024, at around 2 a.m. Cabins were flooed with two to four inches of water. Passengers were told to go to their muster station. The vessel had taken on water, as bad weather had impacted the route. The crew distributed bottled water and a small number of blankets to passengers who got off the ship shortly after 8 a.m. Some staterooms were taken out of service for the next departure as the Carnival team completed clean up and replaced carpet. Those guests who were not able to sail were provided full refunds, a future cruise credit and received overnight accommodations if they needed them.

Ship damaged in severe storm

Mon May 29 12:21:57 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Carnival Sunshine' encountered a treacherous storm on its way to Charleston on May 27, 2023. As the ship battled turbulent waves and powerful winds reaching speeds of up to 70 mph, the vessel's interior and guests' areas suffered damage. Nno injuries were reported. The passengers were confined to their cabins overnight, with belongings scattered. Waves battered the mooring deck, causing substantial damage to the ship's interior. Crew members from Deck 0-4 were evacuated to the theater and any available resting spaces for the night. Some guests even sought refuge in the theater while wearing life jackets. The crew bar was destroyed, and crew cabins and corridors were flooded. Flooded hallways and staterooms were observed on Deck 2, and leaks were discovered through walls and ceilings. Many shipboard personnel could not return to their assigned cabins. Guests on board the ship were safe. The medical staff helped a small number of guests and crew members who needed minor assistance. The weather’s prolonged impact on the Charleston area delayed the ship’s arrival on May 28, and as a result, the next voyage’s embarkation was also delayed. The 'Carnival Sunrise' came to assist a small boat with seven refugees while heading back to Florida towards the end of its Caribbean cruise on Dec 30, 2022, off the coast of Cuba. The cruise ship apparently stopped and picked up the refugees, who were trying to get to South Florida from Cuba. The ship was scheduled to arrive back in Miami on Dec 31 at the end of a five-night Western Caribbean cruise that included a call to Ocho Rios in Jamaica on December 28 and George Town in Grand Cayman.
