Injured skipper hoisted off the Sables d'Olonne

On July 29, 2016, at 2:10 a.m. the CROSS f Etel was contacted by the "Challenger" after the skipper had suffered a head injury. The trawler was 63 miles off the Sables d'Olonne. After the connection to the CROSS Etel was suddenly interrupted, the emergency services continued their investigations with the "Le Battant", another trawler in the vicinity of the "Challenger". The decision was then taken to evacuate the injured sailor to the hospital in La Rochelle. A Dauphin helicopter of the Navy base in La Rochelle took off towards the trawler. The injured was then hoisted and taken to Hospital in La Rochelle. The three crew members who had remained on board were heading back to the port of Cotinière, Saint Pierre d'Oléron where the ship arrived in the afternoon.
