Medevac off Monterey Bay
The US Coast Guard medically evacuated a 76-year-old man from the 'Crown Princess' approximately 74 miles southwest of Monterey Bay on Feb 6, 2024. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders were contacted by the cruise ship, requesting a medevac for a man requiring medical assistance. An Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was launched. Once on scene, the Dolphin aircrew hoisted the man and transported him back to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Monterey Airport. The man was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, and was last reported to be in stable condition.
Passenger medevaced in critical condition
The US Coast Guard medevaed a 72-year-old man from the 'Crown Princess' approximately 90 miles off the San Diego coast on Dec 6, 2022, which had contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders after the man was experiencing stroke-like symptoms. A Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched to Crown Princess’s location. The helicopter hoisted the man, his spouse and the cruise ship’s nurse and transported them to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center. The patient was in critical condition when he was transferred to emergency medical services.
Itinerary changed due to engine maintenance
The sailing of the 'Crown Princess' from Seattle on May 7, 202, to Alaska has been changed. Scheduled engine maintenance has forced several changes to its scheduled ports of call. The scheduled maintenance means that the 'Crown Princess' cannot operate at her full speed during the upcoming voyage. While Princess Cruises ensured that the safety of guests and crew is in no way compromised by the lack of speed, the maintenance came as a surprise. The vessel will be on its first cruise in more than two years. It will no longer be calling to Ketchikan on May 12. Instead, Princess Cruises has included a call to Icy Strait Point on May 11 from 5:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. The vessel will also arrive at the first port of call, Juneau, on May 9 at 3:30 p.m. instead of noon. The arrival to Skagway is one hour earlier, at 6:00 a.m. instead of 7:00 a.m., due to the various changes. The reason for the engine maintenance was unclear at this time. Guests booked on this voyage will receive a refundable credit of $100 applied to the onboard account.
