Bulkcarrier grounded after engine trouble

Tue Jun 04 09:25:37 CEST 2013 Timsen

By June 4 the "Ghent Max" remained berthed in the Hansaport in Hamburg following its grounding on the Elbe at river km 715 on the northern embankment on June 2 at 9.15 p.m. The ship, whilst coming from Riga, had suffered problems with its cooling water system and had to be stopped by an emergency anchoring manoever at 8.15 p.m. near fairway buoy 46. As the ship was moored at the very edge of the fairway the tugs "Bugsier 16“ and "Bugsier 15“ as well as the anti pollution vessel "Neuwerk“ were dispatched. One hour later the engine problems were solved, but when the anchor was lifted, the ship got stuck off the Medem river. Only in the morning of June 3 the ship was pulled off by the tugs and allowed to continue its voyage to Hamburg, escorted by the tugs "Bugsier 10" and „Bugsier 21".
