Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) medevacs ill sailor

Tue Jul 19 09:51:46 CEST 2011 arnekiel

Operatives of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted a medical evacuation of a Filipino crewmember of a Liberian-registered oil tanker after complaining of severe pain while they are sailing off La Monja Island near Corregidor. Lieutenant Commander Algier Ricafrente, Coast Guard Public Affairs chief, said that based on a report from the PCG Action Center, M/T Konstantin Jacob ship captain Ivan Angelo informed the PCG Headquarters in Pier 15 in Manila that one of his crewmembers identified as A/B Raul Jogno is suffering from severe hernia and needs immediate medical evacuation while they are located some 100 nautical miles off the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). According to the ship captain, the vessel, which came from Singapore, is supposedly bound for China. PCG Commandant Admiral Ramon Liwag immediately dispatched the search-and-rescue (SAR) vessel BRP-Nueva Vizcaya (SARV-3502) with a Coast Guard Medical Team onboard to bring back the patient from the M/T Konstantin Jacob that is some 10 nautical miles west off La Monja Island in Cavite. At around 5:34 p.m., the patient was safely and successfully transferred from the M/T Konstantin Jacob to the PCG rescue vessel, and was immediately brought to the PCG headquarters at the South Harbor in Manila.
