Bunker tanker sank while refuelling trawler

Sat Sep 02 11:23:18 CEST 2017 Timsen

During bunkering operations for the "Malle - L 153", 512 gt (IMO: 9034080), in Thyborøn the 58-cbm-bunker tanker "Stathav 20" of the Nordic Oil AS suddenly sank on Aug 31, 2017. It is one of the three bunker boats of the Nordic Marine in the port. It suffered water ingress and capsized within a few minutes right behind the trawler with only the bow prutruding from the water. The crew on the "Malle" had noticed that the ship was listing, and a crew member jumped onto the ship to try to rescue it but had to leave when he stood in water up to the belly. The fire rescue from Lemvig and the lifeboat "Martha Lerche" were alerted and an oil boom laid out around the tanker and the trawler. A faint oil film was observed around the boat which evaporated soon. The Nordics Marine Oil had to ensure that there was no further outflow of oil and to recover the wreck. 30 tons diesel fuel had to be pumped out and the wreck was raised with divers who wapped wires around the hull and a crane on Sep 1. The emergency management board in Herning had 19 men at work at Thyborøn. There was no hole found in the hull after the ship was floating again. The bunker tanker was expected to be seaworthy again next week.
