Crane in danger of collapsing after allision

Wed Jun 19 09:48:55 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Nagoya Express" allided with Crane Q15 of the Hai Phong International Port (HITC) upstream of the Lach Huyen International Wharf on June 7, 2019, at 6.30 a.m. while unmooring. The ship had berthed at the International Terminal on June 6, coming from Cai Mep, Saigon. In the afternoon of June 7 the ship left the port in a thunderstorm under guidance of personnel of Tran Anh Pilot. After it went adrift, the bow hit the QC 15 which was hired by CATC from the Cat Lai port (HCMC) which was placed at the end of the port. The ship returned tp port and remained berthed at the terminal until June 9 and was then moved to the Hai Phong outer anchorage. In the morning of June 20 she was still at anchor in pos. 20° 35.52' N 106° 53.61' E. The gantry crane with a value of $5 millions was critically damaged, having been bent and kept from collapsing only by supporting pillars. The Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority was cooperating with related parties to investigate and determine the cause of the incident. The pilot has been suspended.
