Containership rescued six castaways

Wed Jun 26 10:32:19 CEST 2019 Timsen

On June 20, 2019, the "NYK Eagle" was involved in a combined rescue operation involving Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers. She safely rescued six crew members from a sinking coastal vessel in the Eastern Gulf of Aden after receiving a request from the CMF to assist a small sinking coastal vessel, as she was closest to the affected vessel. A thorough and cautious rescue approach was carried out by the container ship which rescued half a dozen crew members. Two other crew members were airlifted by the Japan Navy helicopter and taken to Japan. The "NYK Eagle" sailed to Djibouti to disembark the six castaways on June 22, before resuming her passage from Yantian to Rotterdam.
