Maersk to scrap 8 old 4,360-TEU Sea Land ships in India and China

Mon Jan 02 09:23:01 CET 2017 arnekiel

The world's biggest shipping company, Denmark's Maersk Line, said it will scrap one per cent of its fleet when its recycles eight 4,360-TEUers now deployed on its TP10 and TP18 services, reports American Shipper. The panamax ships are the Sea Land Lightning, Sea Land Charger, Sea Land Intrepid, Sea Land Comet, Sea Land Eagle, Sea Land Racer, Sea Land Meteor and Sea Land Mercury. "This is a small but meaningful capacity reduction, which will contribute to achieving a better balance between supply and demand for Maersk Line," said Maersk Line chief operating officer Sven Toft. Maersk said it expects to scrap more vessels than in previous years as more near their end of economic life. Four will be scrapped in India, four in China.

SEALAND INTREPID 9143025

Fri Aug 27 09:24:38 CEST 2010 Timsen

The Coast Guard rescued a fisherman from a liferaft with the help of the "Sealand Intreprid" transiting toward Oakland Aug 25 night. At approximately 9:25 p.m., the Coast Guard received a mayday broadcast from the 27-foot f/v "Ana" which took on water, approximately 29 nautical miles west of Pillar Point Harbor. The master of the fishing vessel abandoned ship and boarded a liferaft. The Coast Guard launched the Coast Guard Cutter "Sockeye", a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Golden Gate, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco. The "Sea-Land Intrepid" finally found both the fishing boat and liferaft. It stayed on scene until the Coast Guard's small boat arrived.
