Minister visited ship under repair

Wed Mar 07 12:12:58 CET 2018 Timsen

Algier's Minister of Public Works and Transport, Abdelghani Zaalane, said on March 6, 2018, that the "Tarik Ibn Ziyad" which suffered a fire last fall, will be back in service from the next summer season, after the completion of the maintenance and repair work. The minister, who was conducting an unannounced inspection visit to the port of Algiers to inquire about the progress of work on the ship at the National Ship Repair Company (ERENAV), said that the repair work could be realized thanks to the national potentialities despite the economic situation. According to the minister, the staff of ERENAV has successfully completed the repair so the ship will be ready to resume shipping from the next season on. The fire damaged the cargo deck and much of the electronics and cables. The Biskra Cable Industries Company (ENICAB) was awarded the international certification granted by the Veritas International Bureau based in Paris. More than 17,000 meters of cables of different types manufactured by ENICAB have been installed on the "Tarik Ibn Ziyad" .The ship has been equipped with surveillance cameras and sophisticated equipment to ensure the safety of the crew and passengers. On March 8 the "Tariq Ibn Ziyad" sailed from Algiers at 1.15 a.m. and arrived at Bizerte on March 10, from where she continued to Menzel Bourguiba for further docking.
