Barge suffered leak in ship's bottom

Tue Mar 06 10:01:40 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Tsunami", 925 ts (EU-No.: 04031110), which had suffered water ingress at Raiffeisen in Mehrum in the morning of March 3, remained stationary on March 6. The leak could be located in the bottom of the hull. The canal authority was still to decided whether the ship would be allowed to proceed to a yard or first would have to be unloaded and patched on scene. Water was still pouring into the engine room which was, however, immediately pumped back into the Mittelland Canal. There was no oil left which could cause a pollution.

Water ingress in Mehrum

Sat Mar 03 13:05:25 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Tsunami", 925 ts (EU-No.: 04031110),which was berthed at Raiffeisen in Mehrum suffered a water ingress in the morning of March 3, 2018. The barge was loaded with 600 tons grain. The fire rescue was alerted at 7.22 a.m. It was impossible to lay out oil booms due to the ice flows on the water. The company Thon was called to dispose of the water-oil mixture which had accumulated knee deep in the engine room. The mixture was pumped into tank trucks. At 10.30 a.m. the police took over the coordination of the response. No oil spill was obeserved, and ship traffic was not hampered. A broken pipe was thought to have caused the water ingress. Tsunami underway again

Thu Jun 28 10:09:14 CEST 2012 Timsen

In the morning of June 28, the "Tsunami" resumed its voyage to Brake, one day after the ship had got stuck near the road bridge Huntebrück (Berne), during the outgoing tide. The current had been too strong for successful refloating attempts of the crew of two after the ship had grounded between some pilings and the embankment. The salvage attempts of a pusher tug which had been nearby by chance had failed. Only in the afternoon the ship could be refloated with the flood. The Hunte traffic control had advised the master to berth at Elsfleth for surveys of the hull by divers before the ship was allowed to proceed.
