Next ships to leave Ukraine with grain products

Wed Aug 10 11:04:11 CEST 2022 Timsen

On Aug 9, 2022, the bulk carrier 'Ocean Lion' has sailed from the port of Chornomorsk, destined for Incheon via Singapore, bringing the total to 12 ships to leave the Ukraine since a deal was brokered to resume grains shipment via a humanitarian maritime corridor out of the Black Sea. It was the largest to have left the Black Sea since the suspension of sailings, and was loaded with 65,000 metric tonnes of feed-grade corn. The corn was sold by Viterra to KFA Incheon before Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, and the ship had been stranded at the port due to Russia’s naval blockade and Ukraine’s subsequent defensive mining of the waters. The 'Rahmi Yagci' also left Chornomorsk carrying 5,300 metric tonnes of sunflower destined for Istanbul. More than 370,000 mt of agricultural products have been shipped out of the Ukraine since Aug 1. The 'Bonita' is expected to leave Pivdennyi port for South Korea. She is currently being loaded with 66,000 metric tonnes of food-grade corn after loading was suspended following the invasion. However, there were concerns about the quality of corn aboard the ship wich had been stuck for months without proper ventilation and exposed to the heat and humidity. There is a risk of being rejected as she was not loaded freshly recently. The aflatoxin content is an important specification requirement for corn arriving in South Korea. If it is over 20 ppb, it cannot be used for feed production. bearbeiten löschen

Bulkcarrier hit by cargo ship which drifted in the river current

Tue Dec 04 19:24:51 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Bonita" was hit by the unloaded cargo m/v "River Trader" (IMO: 8813051), which caused considerable damage when docking in the port of Brake in the evening of Dec 3, 2012. The master of the smaller ship was not used to the strong currents on the Weser, and it got out of control. First it smashed into a barge, allided with the quay and finally scraped along the stern of the "Bonita" which was berthed at the South Pier and finally destroyed a wooden Pier on a length of five metres. The "River Trader" was detained at the North Pier after the accident.
