Cruise ship with Covid infections in Melbourne

Passengers onboard the 'Grand Princess' were infected with Covid-19 on an 18-day round trip from Adelaide to Queensland. It was unclear how many people on board were affected. The ship's laundromat was also shut after fears it had become a virus hot spot. Those on board needing urgent care were transported to hospital facilities in a way that was safe after the ship docked in Melbourne on Nov 10, 2023, and underwent a cleaning.

Cruise ship saved two distressed boaters

The 'Grand Princess' has helped save two people who were found clinging to a dinghy after their vessel took on water off Wilsons Promontory in Gippsland in South East Victoria on March 20, 2023. A 58-year-old man and 29-year-old woman had left Queenscliff early and were travelling to Port Albert, but by 10 p.m., they ran out offuel and got into difficulty just off Skull Rock in Wilsons Promontory/Yiruk and Wamoon in the Victorian National Park after its engines failed amid stormy weather conditions. The pair was forced to abandon the boat and get into a dinghy that had been attached to it, before setting off an EPIRB. A police helicopter team located the pair about midnight, and the 'Grand Princess', which was in the Bass Strait, was asked to send a rescue craft to the man and woman. The pair were then taken aboard the ship and both assessed by a medical team with no major injuries. First cruise ship in Maui with Covid-19 infections on board

The 'Grand Princess' arrived at Kahului Harbor on Maui on Jan 12, 2022 with an estimated 1,188 passengers aboard and 900-plus crew members. The vessel was the first with passengers to disembark from a cruise ship in 22 months, since the industry halt in March of 2020 amid pandemic concerns. She had departed from Los Angeles, Calif., on Jan. 4, and arrived in Honolulu over the weekend. It then sailed to Nāwiliwili on Kauaʻi on Jan 11, and Hilo on Jan 12, before arriving on Maui. Despite precautions taken, there were confirmed positive COVID-19 cases aboard the 'Grand Princess'. A specific number was not disclosed, but HDOT officials note that anyone who tested positive (symptomatic and asymptomatic alike) will not come ashore. The health program aboard the ship includes rooms to isolate infected individuals, and also features rooms for critical care.
