Alarm raised due to suspicious smell of leaking liquid

Fri Feb 14 21:31:45 CET 2020 Timsen

In the evening of Feb 13, 2020, port employees at the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven noticed a suspicious smell on board the 'Maersk Montana' after it had berthed at 8.45 p.m. All work around the ship was immediately stopped and the fire brigade, police and rescue workers were alerted. The emergency services quickly found that the trigger for the intense smell was an unknown liquid which leaked from a container and was spilling on the ship. The container was secured and then unloaded in a tub in which the container was then safely deposited in a special area. The investigation showed that the liquid was a concentrate for cleaning from medicine which did not have to be declared as dangerous goods. The ship's management was required to clean the deck to prevent any of the subatance from getting into the water of the port. The ship left Bremerhaven again on Feb 14 at 3 p.m., bound for Charleston, USA, with an ETA as of Feb 28.

Problem with air valve

Mon Jan 14 10:15:46 CET 2019 Timsen

On Jan 13, 2019, the "Maersk Montana" suffered a problem with the NB4 air valve en route from Houston to Antwerp in position 50 22 N, 003 03 W. The crew requested to replace them at 10.40 p.m. No other assistance was required. The ship berthed in the Deurganck Dock in Antwerp the same night.

Containers with dangerous goods spilt their contents

Fri Apr 24 10:16:45 CEST 2015 Timsen

Enroute from Rotterdam to Bremerhaven two 20-ft-tank containers which were stowed under deck of the "Maersk Montana" were severely damaged and lost their contents. The ship docked in Bremerhaven in the morning of Apr 22, 2015, at 6.30 a.m. The fire rescue was ready to assist and boarded the ship once it was berthed. They found that 40 tons of epoxy resin which is classified as dangerous cargo of the category 9 / UN 3082) had spilt into the cargo hold. The damaged containers were placed in special tubs on shore after their removal. A special company was called to dispose of the resin and clean up the cargo area. On Apr 24 at 1.45 a.m. the vessel docked at the Jade Weser Port in Wilhelmshaven for final cleaning works.
