Fire on crew boat off Heligoland

On Nov 15, 2017, at 8.20 a.m. the "World Calima" suffered an engine room fire NW of Heligoland. The ship was initially taken in tow by the wind farm ship "Windea Two" which happened to be nearby to keep the disabled vessel away from the installations. On scene were NW winds of 3-4 Beaufort. The lifeboat "Hermann Marwede" was on scene at 9.40 a.m. and joined by a NATO convoy consisting of four navy ships. The mine hunter "Sulzbach-Rosenberg" took over the on scene command. The lifeboat "Hermann Marwede" launched its daughter boat "Verena" which took off eight technicians from the East Northsea wind farm which were carried aboard the CTV. The crew of five remained on board and shut off the engine room, starting fire extinguishing measures. The engine room was flooded with CO2. The "Hermann Marwede" then took the CTV in tow and pulled it towards the island port, escorted by the "Sulzbach-Rosenberg“ and arriving there around 3 p.m. Meanwhile the lifeboat "Anneliese Kramer" of the DGzRS-station Cuxhaven took a fire fighting unit of the fire rescue Cuxhaven to Heligoland. The experts coordinated with the volunteer fire rescue of the island after the ship was berthed in port. She left the island's port again on Nov 20 at 7.15 p.m. It headed to Esbjerg and berthed at the Isvaerk A/S in the fishing port on Nov 21 at 10.30 a.m. She sailed again on Jan 11, 2018, and berthed in the South Port of Heligoland at 7 p.m. German report with photos and video: https://m.seenotretter.de/aktuelles/seenotfaelle/ansicht/news/maschinenraumbrand-auf-windparkschiff-nordwestlich-von-helgoland/ https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/930852959629561857
